FoodBridge Alliance acknowledges that we operate on Treaty 6 Territory, the traditional lands of the Cree, Saulteaux, Dene, Dakota, Lakota, Nakota Sioux, Inuit, and Metis Nations. We recognize the deep enduring connection they have with this land.
We honour the treaties that were made on these territories and recognize the historical and ongoing injustices that Indigenous peoples face. In the spirit of reconciliation, we are committed to respecting the rights and traditions of Indigenous peoples and working collaboratively to support a future of mutual respect and prosperity.
We express our gratitude for the opportunity to work, live, and learn on this land. We are particularly grateful to the Traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are with us today, sharing their wisdom and guiding us towards a more inclusive and respectful community.
We are bridging the gaps between hunger, waste and education, so we can pave the way for a brighter and more equitable future for children and their families.
We envision a future where every child has access to nutritious meals where no edible food is wasted so as to provide children with the ability to learn and grow. FoodBridge Alliance strives to create a strong interconnected community where food is a source of strength and unity.
FoodBridge Alliance began as a grassroots response to a pressing need observed in a local elementary school. The school's principal was determined to support students and their families who were struggling with food insecurity, and a small group of volunteers inspired by this initiative, began assembling meal bags and pantry staples to send home with students. As the demand grew and the effects of inflation made it harder for families to afford basic necessities, it became clear that this effort needed to expand beyond just one school.
Witnessing the direct impact of food security in children's ability to learn and thrive, we formalized our efforts by establishing FoodBridge Alliance. Our mission is to tackle both food insecurity and food waste by creating pantries within schools, ensuring students and their families have access to nutritious food outside of school hours. By rescuing surplus food from local grocers and producers, we aim to nourish our community while reducing environmental waste. Through these initiatives, we strive to build a future where every child has the nourishment they need to learn, grown, and succeed.
